Why write this article

Australian Education Agents for BraziliansI am an English language teacher in Australia and have been involved in international education for 20 years. I have taught hundreds of Brazilian and South American students (and many thousands of other students from around the world). Many Brazilian and South Americans have had very positive experiences with their education agent whilst others unfortunately have not. I decided to create a website www.besteducationaget.com to help international students compare the best education agents in Australia. This article however is specifically for Brazilians.

This article includes information comparing:

  1. Recommended Education Agents for Brazilians studying in Australia
  2. Why Brazilians choose to study in Australia
  3. Useful webpages for Brazilian students

Recommended Australian Education Agents for Brazilians

Criteria for comparing the best Education Agents for Brazilians

There are many wonderful education agents that focus on Brazil and Latin America. There are more than 2000 registered education agents and a lot of them can process student visas for Brazilians. But not every education consultant offers the same services.

I am a very strong believer in using an education agent that has an office in the city where you are going to study. Very good education agents will help you settle into life in Australia and help you with opening a bank account, obtaining a TFN, getting a SIM card for your phone, writing a resume etc. Also, if you encounter problems, good education agents with an office in the city will be able to assist you or give you advice on solving the problem.

Criteria for inclusion in my recommended education agents list:

Office in Australia – Must have an office (at least one) in Australia and have dedicated staff specifically for Brazilian students.

High Google Reviews – the agent must more than 20 Google Reviews and a rating above 4.7 to ensure high quality of service

Experience – the education agency must have been in Australia for a minimum of 3 years to ensure they have enough experience

Go Study Australia

Go Study has been around for more than 16 years and has provided education and visa services to over 40,000 people. Currently they have 12 offices in Australia, Europe and South America and lay claim to being the largest international agency in Australia.

They certainly do offer some great services. These include assistance opening a Bank account (Commonwealth Bank), obtaining a Tax File Number opening (TFN) and Australian Business Number opening (ABN) if required, special prices and discounts for work certificates: RSA (catering) Green/White Card (building). But what makes them one of my recommended education agents is the assistance they provide in preparing students to find employment. They offer Job preparation sessions at their offices which include workshops, seminars and training. They also offer special prices and discounts for work certificates like the RSA (catering) Green/White Card (building).

Going even further with the assistance in finding a job, Go Study has an eBooks package which includes information on Working in Australia, including the ‘Ultimate guide to getting a job in Australia’, ’12 Websites to find a job in Australia’ and ‘Ultimate Guide to Regional and Farm Work’. Even more they have a GO STUDY Jobs Club newsletter subscription to receive the latest job offers. Click here if you would like a friendly consultant from Go Study to contact you.

Hello Australia

Hello Australia has been in operation for over 13 years and has a strong focus on people, as you would expect form an agency focused on Brazil and Latin America. They have a lot of varied social events that connect people together to help form friendships whilst in Australia.

The extra services provided to their students include help with obtaining a TFN, writing a personalized Resume and offering a mail service. But what makes Hello Australia one of my recommended education agents are these three extra services. They have an airline department which takes care of all the details of the ticket to the destination country of your choice, offering great flight options and special promotions for students and companions. They will also introduce you to their employment contacts which will hopefully lead to a job quicker as it is very expensive to live in Australia. We all have bills to pay and we need to work. Additionally, they have partnerships with companies specializing in Homestay and Student Residences so that our students can choose the type of accommodation according to their preferences. This is of course a paid service but very helpful.

The best Education Agents offer extra services for Brazilians

Many education agents offer extra services to assist Brazilians when they first arrive in the country. I conducted a survey at a large language school in Australia to enquire about the importance of offering extra services to international students to help them settle into Australian life when they first arrive. You can read an article I wrote about the importance of offering extra services to international students which contains more information about the survey I conducted.

I proposed the question ‘If you could get help, in one location, when you first arrived in Australia to get the following services, would you use it?’

  • open a bank account
  • get a SIM card for your mobile phone
  • obtain a public transport card,
  • write a resume
  • get a Tax File Number (TFN)
  • purchase a power adaptor

I discovered that 100% of Brazilians (and almost everyone else) would use this service if they were offered it when they first arrive. The most interesting point is that 64% of Brazilians would actually pay to have someone help them when they first arrived.

Social Events for Brazilian students

Social connections are very important and especially for students who come from countries that have strong family and friendship circles/connections. Some agents organise events to assist new students to form friendships with other Portuguese speakers. These social events vary between agents but can include excursions, observance of cultural festivals, parties, watching sporting events etc.

Many of the best education agents offer extra services to  Brazilian students.

It is of no surprise that some of the most popular and highest ranking education agents offer these extra services. Check out the extra services these Brisbane Education Agents, Sydney Education Agents and Melbourne Education Agents offer:  Some go even further and and most

Why do Brazilians choose to study in Australia

I conducted a small scale survey of Brazilian students to find out the principle reason why they chose to study in Australia and not in other English speaking countries like Canada, England o New Zealand. I surveyed 42 Brazilian students studying at a language school in Brisbane and discovered that earning income was the principle factor for many. The ability to study and work to pay for the tuition and living expenses was the principle factor for 47% of students in deciding to study in Australia.

Having friends who were or had been in Australia was also important (17%) as they knew someone already living in Australia or who had had a positive experience in Australia. Australia’s warm weather was also the primary factor for some (15%).

Most popular courses for Brazilian students studying in Australia

The most popular courses for Brazilian students in Australia are Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. However, most Brazilian students start studying ELICOS before they progress to a VET course. This is due in part to the English language requirement to enter a VET course. ELICOS providers usually offer General English courses designed to teach students English and then most offer Exam preparation courses like IELTS, Cambridge and PTE.

Each VET and University education provider has different English proficiency requirements to enter a course, but typically a TAFE course requires an IELTS score of 5.5 and Universities are between 6.5-7.5
